Lentening together into a season of love...

Lent season begins today and for the next 40 days some Christians will choose to bid farewell to meat. I for one am already a pescetarian and when I think about what to give up I think about the things that detract me from connecting with people beyond the superficiality of life. For the last two years during Lent I have given up Facebook (except for Sundays). I take this contemplative hiatus because during this season I like to more intentionally reflect on how deeply I love, how deeply I connect, and how I share the true essence of my humanity with the people in my life, those with whom I so desire to connect beyond the mundane details of daily life. I have always believed that our lives have to be fully shared and fully spent to experience the truth that is only found in the essence of that life. Unguarded and vulnerable we must be to unmask the loneliness of our hurts and deepest fears as well as our joys and gladness in order to embrace life with others in all its fullness and totality. During Lent we journey together to that time and space when we celebrate Easter and Easter is about love.
