Like children playing in the rain

Good morning world out there! I rested well after a 16.3-mile run yesterday in the torrential Nola weather coupled also with the gymnastics of dashing countless potholes on the way. I stayed close to home in case the weather averted me to retrieve but to my delight I persevered and completed a difficult long run in ankle-deep water. While out there, I encountered a couple of other runners and we greeted each other with the respect that such dedication or total madness deserves, high-fiving each other followed by spontaneous laughter as little children playing in the rain.

Being out in the rain yesterday took me back to my childhood memories during the monsoon seasons in South America. On some stormy days, my sister and I would sneak out of the house when the heavy rains came to play outside while mother would run around us, towel in hand in a chase to rescue us from a sure cold, only to succumb herself to the joy and playfulness of those unforgettable moments. She too would laugh with us, her hair and clothes completely drenched and her soul so pure, so filled with love. Yesterday, I thought of my mother in the rain and the gift of her love and care.
I thank God for this Sabbath day and for each new day!
