Not giving up!

Feeling overwhelmed with an array of things to get done before the end of the semester, and that’s only four weeks away. I am frantically working on a paper for a conference in Baltimore, MD, due in a week and I only have the introduction to show for so far. I envy some of my friends and colleagues who teach at universities with small teaching loads that allow them more time for research and writing. Unfortunately, my university requires teaching four classes per semester, abundant committee work and university service, and on top of that, we must write and publish. Yikes! Besides the paper for the conference, I am also working on an article that has to be ready for publication by the end of the semester. Sometimes I ask myself, is it worth it? But life goes on…
My CASA case is also drawing to an end, with the final court day next month. I have noticed so many flaws in the Department of Children & Family Services and that frustrates me. But I am looking to the good in the system and keeping my fingers crossed for a good placement outcome for my kid and his siblings. Another thing keeping me extremely occupied is a new course in Biblical Greek I am teaching this semester. Class preparation for new courses is always time consuming.
I am continuing with my training for my St Jude Marathon and I am getting excited, albeit a bit nervous, feeling unprepared. Hampered by a nagging injury, I have missed some of my long runs. A 16-mile run was my longest run yet, over a month ago. I needed to get at least an 18-mile run in before the race. But since I have not been running consistently, I cannot drastically increase miles. I probably could go out there and run 18 miles, but I would risk an injury. Running has a very delicate balance and proper care of the body is a must. I have been able to keep up with my fitness at the gym and keeping a strict healthy diet. I am now 116lbs. I feel fit, light, and ready to get the job done, but I am lacking the miles. I will see if those two factors, fitness and light weight, can help me cross the finish line. My coach seems reluctant and suggested I run the half-marathon instead, but I am stubbornly determined. I don’t give up easily.

My last long 16-mile run wearing my St Jude shirt. The St Jude kids inspire me!
